Report Producer

The role of report producer involves managing various research projects with the objective of producing business intelligence reports. Essentially this is a project management role. The most challenging aspect of this job is keeping various researchers, who often work remotely, on track. Devising a comprehensive research brief, that is a list with the topics to be researched, and setting realistic timelines is essential to seeing each research project through.

Once you have done your initial research, picked a winning team of analysts and written the best report in its field, you could say you’ve won half the battle. The remaining half is making sure that everyone in your target market knows about your report, or in other words: marketing. In this role you’ll be in charge of devising your own marketing plan and choosing the best ways of reaching your target audience. In many cases conference organisers would have built a community that you can market your products to but marketing goes beyond this. You need to get in touch with the community and convince them that you’re providing information they couldn’t do without and that they couldn’t find anywhere else.

In my opinion the most satisfying aspects of this role are its variety and the high level of responsibility you have for your own project. The report producer is involved in market research, project management, editing, marketing and PR amongst other things. Initially this means facing a steep learning curve, but the skills that you develop in those initial months are definitely worth the hard work.
